How To Fit A Cut To Size FKM Rubber Strap
Share
Step One:
Use the measuring tape provided to measure the circumference of your wrist and the distance from the top to bottom lugs of your watch. Subtract the distance between lugs from the circumference of your wrist, this will give you the total length of the strap.
Example: For the purpose of this guide, I will use my own wrist and Tudor Blackbay 58 as an example. My wrist measures 17.5cm and the lug distance is roughly 4.2cm. This gives a needed strap length of 13.3cm.
Step Two:
Divide the strap length from step one by 2, this will give you the length needed for each side. It's always better to cut the strap too big than too small and so I would recommend adding an extra 0.5cm to each side.
Example: (13.3cm/2) + 0.5cm = 7.15cm.
Step Three:
Take one side of the strap and turn it over so that you can see the cutting lines. Measure down the strap to the length needed (Example: 7.15cm). This should be
Example: The measurement needed for the example is on the line and so in the interest of measuring slightly larger than needed, we are going to cut along the next line.
Step Four:
Cut each side of the strap. You can do this using a standard pair of scissors or a blade however scissors are probably easier. Please take care when cutting the strap, to make sure the cut follows the line.
Step Five:
Now that the strap is sized, you will need to attach the clasp. In the packet with the clasp, there will be some spring bars which can be used to attach the clasp to the strap. Turn the strap on its side and insert the spring bar in the hole closest to the bottom of the strap. Use the spring bar tool provided to compress the spring bars and attach the strap to the clasp.
Step Six:
Attach the strap to your watch and test the fit. The strap should be comfortable on your wrist and shouldn’t move. Remember we are expecting it to be a little large at this stage and so if it is, take the strap off again and cut off an extra section. If your measurements are right, you should need to cut off a piece from each side for it to fit perfectly. However, we would only recommend doing this one at a time and test fitting the strap after each cut.
Step Seven:
Enjoy your new strap!
